lyrics

Birds Of Truth

The red bird comes at the break of every day
Sings of love that’s lost and gone away
Warns me pride comes before every fall
But if I had wings to fly, I'd never fall at all

The white birds dry away the tears from my face
With songs, so peaceful, sublime and full of grace
But envy turned my eyes a darker green
Made me see the things I wish I’d never seen

One for sadness, two for mirth
Three for an ending, four for a birth
Five for wisdom, six for youth
Seven little birds that sing the truth

The black bird stares me straight in the eye
Dares me never to question why
Anger raised a fist towards my fate
And as darkness falls I fear that it’s too late

The blue bird calls a solitary serenade
It’s time to be reborn and unafraid
It’s time to stand up tall and be a man
And as I lie here alone I'm beginning to understand

One for sadness, two for mirth
Three for an ending, four for a birth
Five for wisdom, six for youth
Seven little birds that sing the truth

And now the magpie and the rook have come to say a fond farewell
Oh, love grant me freedom from your spell
A vulture is circling overhead so high
It’s clear to see our time has come
To say goodbye
